Milestone Buildings of the 20th Century

1910-1919

1915
The California Bungalow

With porches and broad overhangs, this single-level house was designed especially for the temperate climate of Southern California. With lots of open space, breezes circulate freely throughout the house. In 1915, you could assemble your own bungalow with a kit of pre-cut parts that cost about $400. The style was so popular it became a model for 20th century suburban living in America.
