Milestone Buildings of the 20th Century

1930-1939

1937
Falling Water
Bear Run, PA

Architect: Frank Lloyd Wright

Built over a stream and rock formation, this house brought the great outdoors inside. It includes a mixture of open and enclosed spaces, contrasting man-made and natural materials. It was designed as a vacation retreat with a huge fireplace for heat when needed. What it lacks in energy efficiency, it more than makes up for in appreciation of nature.
