Milestone Buildings of the 20th Century

1950-1959

1950
Levittown
Long Island, NY

The baby boom created a need for affordable housing for young American families. Levittown was the "home to come home to" for World War II veterans. Efficient construction techniques with interchangeable plans made these homes quick and easy to build. A home cost $8,000, with 100 dollars down and 1% interest. With the help of the VA loan, the American Dream became a reality.
